WhatsApp requires iOS 15.1. The iPhone SE (1st generation) can be updated to iOS 15.8.4, so it is supported. But lately many users have had this issue of a black screen upon login with WhatsApp. As a result contact WhatsApp Support and report the issue to them.

This is what has been reported recently as a workaround from another user, but it certainly is one of the many bugs that Meta introduced in WhatsApp and they will likely offer an update at some point. You can try it, or contact WhatsApp for Support:

There is a solution from Mr. Bektaş from in Turkey.

1-Delete and install WhatsApp from AppStore.

2-Open it.

3-Enter phone number.

4-Skip iCloud step.

5-STOP when it asks for “your name”. STOP.

6-Close Wi-Fi and Cellular data.

7-Return WhatsApp, enter your username.

8-Continue. No blank screen.

9-And open your internet connections

Hey. I have problems with this too. In most cases it means that your iOS is outdated, or the iPhone (SE 1st gen)
does not support apps like this anymore. Reply if you need extra help!

Sometimes, but not in this case. This case it’s an issue directly with WhatsApp and is not related to Apple or iPhone in anyway. WhatsApp is supported on this iPhone model.
