"view" and "hide" rows in Numbers on Mac ...

I want to list a bird Family in column #1 of the first row, then in the next few rows each species in that family in column #2. (The other columns will be for recording the locations these species were seen in.)

Then the next item in column #1 is another Family and below that rows of those species. Etcetera.


I would like to "view" and "hide" the species rows (so one only sees the Family rows) -- like you can do in the Finder with seeing or hiding folders within folders.


Is this able to be done? How? What is this function actually called?


I will be adding notes and species frequently, so the table needs to remain edit-able.

I would consider entering your data in a simple tabular format, something like this (though you may want to add a date column as well):



Then you can use the Categories feature to view your data in various ways, e.g.,
