I have created a new Numbers spreadsheet, typed nothing in (image 1),
select File - Print (image 2)
It shows the first page as the empty table, but then a bunch of other 'blank pages' Why is this? It doesn't affect what is about to be printed but it makes it harder to see the actual only page that you want to print.

Those grey "pages" are placeholders for the Print Setup display. They won't print.
In Print Setup, take a look at Zoom and Content Scale, especially Fit.

Sorry, in this user-to-user forum we and not privy to why Apple designed Numbers that way. Whatever the default is, it won't please everyone. One man's meat is another man's poison. Any way, it is so easy to alter the scale of Print Setup, just do it!

I understand that they won't print and thanks for pointing out the scale / zoom options (I hadn't played with those as yet). I am curious as to why it's the default setting - ie before you do any zooming out to go onto the other pages.
