How do I tell if an Apple Pay dispute message is genuine?

I am checking the veracity of a text asking me to call 8*********0 about a disputed charge from me on apple pay

Other tell tale signs to confirm a message claiming to be from Apple is a scam:

  • Apple does not send SMS messages, so if it is SMS then it is a scam.
  • Does the message address you by name. If not that same message is sent out to thousands of other people.
  • Does is show the sender as being from an gmail, outlook, or other third party domain. If so, that is not Apple. You can't necessarily trust a senders information as it can be spoofed, so even if it says Apple does not confirm it as legitimate.

While there are many more indicators for quick identification, these 3 are sure ways to confirm a scam. In any case, you should NEVER call a number or click a link in a message/email you receive and provide personal information. Treat them as information only, and you will always have known methods of contact for verifications. For example anything related to Apple can be confirmed with the known number here:

Not an Apple number, so that likely tells you all that you need to know. The moderators edited the original number that you posted.....area code 805.....which is in the Los Angeles area. Apple is in the San Franciso Bay Area in Northern California.

Are you disputing a charge from Apple? If so, contact Apple Support using the information in the link below.
