How can I use Face ID for Apple Pay without AssistiveTouch?

I have just got an iPhone 16 Pro Max and I am currently setting up my Apple pay. I want to be able to double click my side button, use Face ID and pay.

However, when I double click my side button it shows an error message saying “to confirm with Face ID, turn in Assistive Touch”.

I don’t want Assistive touch as I don’t like how it looks on the screen/gets in the way. Is there a way to activate FaceID for Apply Pay without activating assistive touch.

Hey Abbigail, happy to hear you've got a new iPhone ;-)

The error message you're seeing indicates that a specific accessibility setting has been enabled, which is redirecting the confirmation process. You should be able to disable this setting and restore the standard Face ID confirmation.

Here's how to fix it:

Go to your iPhone's Settings.
Tap on Accessibility.
Scroll down and select Side Button.
Look for an option that says "Confirm with AssistiveTouch" and make sure it is turned OFF.

After you've toggled this setting off, try double-clicking the side button again. Your iPhone should now prompt you for Face ID directly, allowing you to pay without needing to enable AssistiveTouch.
