Apple Pay receipts showing expired card instead of current default card

Apple Pay showing payment with an expired card but payment done with default card. The expired card appears on my receipts instead of my current card. I no longer have that card saved on my phone or on safari autofill. I cannot even remember which account that card was issued on, it is that old. I found out when I had to do a return for an item I purchased and the cashier pointed it out to me. I still gave permission to proceed with the refund, but I never received the money. Fortunately it was only £30.

Now I am thinking of removing the card from my wallet permanently and reverting to using a plastic card. But the fact that this problem exists bothers me. I need to have it solved. Can anyone please help?

Your card may have three different sets of numbers. One set is the physical card with embossed or printed numbers. Some banks issue separate numbers for the chip and Apple Pay uses an entirely different set of numbers.

For example, my physical card has a different 16 digit account number and even 4 digit expiration date. My physical card expires in 2028 and my Apple Pay expiration date is 2035.
