Apple Pay double click showing on Apple Watch 10?

I have been using Apple Pay on my iPhone and Apple Watch for quite a while. I am familiar with the way it normally works.

But the other day, I got a notification on the Watch that just requested a double click to pay some Apple charge. There was no amount or item being purchased, shown. There were no indications of this situation on the iPhone.

The next day I checked my iPhone and it had a message that someone had tried to charge my account for a new iPhone 16 costing $999.

I have to believe this was a scam and I did not fall for it, but I am wondering, since the latest WatchOS update was installed the prior day, that this situation may be the result of something that changed in that update.

Would anyone have any insight into this situation?
