How to change the Liquid Glass style from the Lock Screen Notifications (and Control Centre) to the old style ???

I HATE the iOS26 liquid glass look for the notifications on the lock screen and Control Centre.

How do I get it back to how it was in the previous iOS?

I looked at the Display options etc all over the place- I can't seem to find anything that would revert back to the way it was. I have a hard time distinguishing such one-tone looks, I need the distinct colours and black borders to know what I'm looking at.

As soon as my Reminder notification came up on the lock screen, I had no idea what it was nor could read much of it. The white line borders with the "shimmery" pseudo-transparent background is so jarring and my eyes lose the writing into a blur.

Thanks for your help.

Change Style of Lock Screen:

Through a new iOS upgrade, not going to downgrade your settings to those of a previous iOS. So, maybe change the Accessibility features of your iPhone (i.e. High Contrast). The visibility of text and elements on the screen will be made for better readability

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: Accessibility
  3. Tap: Display & Text Size
  4. Toggle On: the Increase Contrast

When you write "I found a way to turn it off" - what aspect of liquid glass are you making reference to that were "completely counterintuitive"? I'm seriously considering re-installing a protected backup from the previous OS until Apple provides more control options.

Personally I've been able to find settings for the general look that I can live with, but its all the swooping and bubble effects that are excessive and distracting to me. The "reduce motion" option doesn't really help. There needs to be some sort of degree to which that motion can be changed - similar to what can be done with other items (like font size and zoom levels).

Thanks

Sorry, but backups do NOT contain an older version of iOS. You can restore your phone to your older backup, but iOS 26.1 will still be on your iPhone.

This is everything you can currently do with Liquid Glass --> Liquid Glass - Love It Or Hate It - It's … - Apple Community

It cannot be turned off or removed. It can be adjusted to better meet your needs.

Yup.

The issue is that the phone lets you Customise the Home Screen, it gives the option to use "DEFAULT" which is the icons being coloured like before, but they don't give you that option for the Control Centre and the Lock Page (notifications on the lock screen).

It's already asinine that it's almost a 3-step process just to get to the "Customise" page for the Home Screen instead of being a pull-down menu at the first press.

But every time I get that notification it's the painted block with the white writing as opposed to the full-colour normal style with white background with black writing, I just can't believe they didn't give us this option from the start.

Yeah that doesn't help at all.
The fact that Apple decide to pigeonhole people into using Liquid Glass is the issue.
I cannot fathom how they came to the conclusion that Options for Displays of how people can look at their screen is one OR the other when it comes to the Contrast & Reduce Transparency OR Tinted but not both.

OK. Share your thoughts with Apple. Liquid Glass isn't likely going away, nor is there likely going to ever be an On/Off switch. So you can tell Apple what you think here --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Appreciate the reply. I had previously read your "love it or hate it" post. It was definitely helpful.

Regarding the old backup, if I remember correctly, I believe I did this a long time ago with an older iPhone, so in theory it should work. The backups I have are not just on my laptop. They have been individually saved in another location, so they haven't been written over. I'd restore / overwrite my phone from the backup that used the previous iOS. To do so, I'd need to remove my current backup from my hidden Library folder (>>Application Support>>MobileSync>>Backup) and replace with the old one.

You may very well be correct about this and I'm remembering an old situation incorrectly. But if I go ahead and try it, I'll definitely report back if it's a success or failure. The issue I'm having with the new motion has not been solved by any of the controls currently available.

Again, there is no IN THEORY about your older backup. iOS is NEVER included in the backup. All you will manage to do is restore your phone to the date the backup was made, losing anything you added from that date forward and you will Still have iOS 26.1 on your phone.

I'm glad however, to hear my user tip was at least useful!

Please trust us as another senior member also is confirming that restoring an older backup can NEVER restore a previous iOS version.

I don’t like it at all. I have held off on changing phones because i have a lot invested in apple store/ apps/ music etc but this may be the last straw. Might be time to move to another brand

That's fine. As users only on a user to user only forum, we don't care if you buy something else. Enjoy whatever you choose. It's your money, after all.

Of course, instead of making threats you think might get someone at Apple's attention (it certainly won't here), you could read through this and try all the setting options, which you may find better meet your needs (or not) --> Liquid Glass - Love It Or Hate It - It's … - Apple Community

I have the same problem. Even with the contrast and transparency options available, the alerts on the lock screen are still on a black background and there is transparency on the icons and other features. This update was clearly done without consideration for anyone with even the slightest visual impairment. An option to go back is absolutely necessary.
