When I restart my screen shows a floating lightning bolt and a usb symbol

That indicates the Mac is in Target Disk Mode. Hold the power button for about 10 seconds to force the Mac to power off. When you power it back on, then it should boot normally.
If it does not, then try a PRAM Reset if this is an Intel Mac (hold for at least two chimes if possible).
