Legacy apps are very laggy on my iPhone 17

I just got an iphone 17 about a week ago, and I'm starting to notice that apps that haven't been updated in years (but still work with iOS 18 and 26) have weird image issues. The gameplay doesn't look as smooth as it did on my iPhone 11, and since some of the apps I previously used on my iPhone 11 have been discontinued on the app store (but are still available since saved in my account), they will never receive any updates to fix the issues with newer devices.

Is there any way to smooth the framerate directly within the settings of the phone (for apps that have this issue)? I would think that at some point, the issue should either be fixed as a setting, or through an update for iOS 26, otherwise, apps that are no longer compatible with the 60hz frame rate on iPhone 17 would need to be made incompatible (or removed entirely from the store).

It's sad because one of the games I still use is a game I got back when I had an ipod touch 2nd generation, and I'd be disappointed if it finally bit the dust. Thanks

This a complex issue and typically abandoned apps are removed from the Apple App Store either by the developer or Apple. Some may be using API’s that are deprecated and will just start crashing when an update finally renders them unusable.

This is just the life of an app that has been abandoned by its developer because it’s no longer profitable to support maintenance and further development.

Try reaching out to the developer and express your continued support for their efforts.
