App store won't install apps

I discovered this trying to install Google Translate but seems that I can't install any apps at all.

I go to the app store on my iPhone 12 Pro running iOS 18.6.2 and when I click the "Get" button on an app, a side button appears on the right side of the screen that says "Double click to install" and an App Store dialog appears at the bottom of the screen showing the app, my account name, and a message saying "Confirm with side button". I've tried double clicking on the side bar, sliding it across the screen, re-signing into the app store, power cycling my phone, etc. but nothing seems to work.

It's like I simply cannot confirm that I want to install the app.

Any ideas?

There is a physical button, the power button, on the side of the phone where you see the instruction to double-click. You need to double-click that button to approve the purchase.
