Annoying cursor movement when typing

I have an iPadPro 12.9” 6th generation updated to iPadOS26.1 . Quite often when I am typing in a text message or filling a table in Notes, the cursor will jump backwards one spot right before the character that I had just typed. I do not use an external keyboard and make sure that only the finger that I am typing with touches the keyboard / display. This is extremely frustrating.
