apple configurator to organize my ipad and iphone

I recall in the "old days" i could just plug my iPhone or iPad into my MAC.. then i could organize the apps and screens (rather than do it on the actual device)

Is that still possible?

I tried Apple configurator but it appears thats for businesses/ schools with dozens of devices.

All i want is to organize apps on my devices via my mac...

You can still do it with Apple Configurator, as you suggested. Your devices don't have to be part of a business or school to use Apple Configurator. I've used it for my personal devices.

In Apple Configurator, select your device then click Actions > Modify > Home Screen Layout in the menubar to reorganize your icons.
