Seeking assistance resolving an issue with my iPad since installing iOS 26.1.
When i hold down on a specific tab and attempt to drag it to a specific location and let go, it reverts back to it’s original position, on the end.
As mentioned above, i am using iOS 26.1 so my software is up to date.
I tried turning off the iPad, and that didn’t work.
Any and all assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Touch and immediately drag downwards to detach the tab from the tab bar; when performed correctly you should see a green "+" badge (this being an element of multi-select). While leaning, timing can be tricky - but once the learnt, you should be able to get the timing right every time.
Once the tab has been detached from the tab bar, without lifting your finger, simply drag the tab to anywhere else within the tab bar - excluding the first and last position.
When you reposition the tab to the tab bar, the adjacent tabs should move aside - then lift your finger from the screen.
If you are following these directions as described (be assured, I have verified this with iPadOS 26.1), you should be able to reposition your tabs along the tab bar.
Thank you for your assistance LotusPilot, i just “unpinned “ them and started over….
Hopefully someone at Apple will see that this was a horrible idea, and revert back to the original way of pinning tabs.
Pinned tabs, something that you have not previously mentioned, are fixed at the left of the tab bar - and cannot be moved. Pinned tabs cannot be moved until they are "unpinned".
To unpin a tab, touch-and-hold the tab until the Action Menu appears. From the menu, select Unpin Tab.
Do you have to Unpin the tab first, in order to get the other tabs to move?
Thank you for replying. I followed your instructions and I did see the green + but when I dragged it to the location where i want it, and pick up my finger, it goes back to it’s original location. I’ve tried several times and still no luck.
Come on Apple, why would they change something that wasn’t broken……ugh..
