updating Tahoe versions stuck 26.0.1 - 26.1

I am, as I write this staring at the black in-progress update screen for Tahoe. I then went for a 45 minute walk. MacBook hooked up to power.

I come back, and I find the progress bar basically around the 10% area and it hasn’t moved.

This happened on the 26.0 to 26.0.1 update and I had to go to the Apple Store to get it revived, which I don’t want to have to do every time Tahoe updates.

any thoughts on why it might be getting stuck? And it would be nice to have some magic key sequence to see what it is doing, like a log of some sort.

—Well you could wait another 45 minutes...

the Mac typically shuts down and restarts more than once on its own during the update process, so walking away you will not be clear on where it is at in that process

—you can force a shut down and reboot and see where it leaves you...

You can always force quit a shutdown by holding the power button/TouchID for ~6-10 sec.

Yeah tried the second option before I saw your post, rebooting, and now it needs to be revived again; which is a tricky process to get right at home (when to hold down keys and such, and there’s little to no feedback).

After an hour or two, I powered it down, it restarted, brought up the progress bar again, then it rebooted, progress bar came up again, rebooted a second time, and now I get the support.apple.com/mac/restore url below the Apple icon once again.

does Tahoe updates simply not work? I’m going to have to take this in to the Apple Store again. This is pretty unacceptable.
