Please help. Unable to download apps

Hi Apple I’m unable to download apps it says update payment method. I try updating it says the payment method has already been added. It doesn’t allow me to move forward. I don’t have any outstanding balances. Please help I need to download an app for a job that starts Monday 😫

Hi, and welcome to the Apple (user-to-user) Community. (Apple is unlikely to see your post to the community here.) Suggestions follow for three main areas (1) Checking details (2) Payment method (3) Trouble-shoot apps

I understand time may be short for you: So choose what seems most applicanble to you in your current situation.

(1) First: You may want to try updating your iPhone to the newest compatible version for iOS 18, (or for iOS 26)

(updates generally include the recommended bug fixes, security updates, and more)


You can view what's available in Settings > General > Software updates.

NB: It is wise to back-up your iPhone first, if you choose to update the iPhone's iOS version.

Else : If your iOS version is already up-to-date and you have the issue with apps.


Try restarting your iPhone: (ie: deletes temporary files, re-establishes connections, may update recent setting changes, and often restores order if something is not working as expected.


Check if any purchasing restrictions are set

(2) If you still have update payment / download app issues:


Check you are signed in to your iPhone with the correct Apple account details that you use for downloading apps:

While there: Update any Apple Account settings you may need to: (scroll down the article for tips).

Check that the expiry date on any payment method(s) is up-to-date.
