Hi SaravanKra,

Thanks for your reply. The reason I marked it "not helpful" is because I am not trying to make a phone call;, not local, not international. I live in a locked, gated community where we changed our outside locks to electronic. To make the lock unlock for a visitor or a delivery, they must select my name on an electronic call box at the gate. The call box makes my phone ring. I have to answer my phone and enter a security code on my phone to unlock the gate for them to walk in.

This security code is 5 digits. My Apple iPhone lets me enter the first 3 digits, then it adds a hyphen - according to USA phone area codes. I cannot remove this hyphen; cannot backspace it out; cannot select to delete; cannot remove it in any way. This means the security code result s wrong because the call box "sees" the hyphen as an extra digit and the gate will not unlock.

That is the problem. That is why I want to block or remove the hyphen. Thank you for trying to help.
