I want to reset my phone and give it to my son but don't want to turn off my monthly applecare+ theft and loss subscription. I see people on here asserting that erase all content won't do that because it's tied to the serial number but I am concerned because the erase content screen specifically calls it out to be erased. How can I ask apple directly so I can get something on record before I risk it?

The key is Monthly. You can arrange to transfer a fully paid AppleCare+ plan to the next owner, or you can get a refund, but Monthly AC+ dies when you sell or give it to a different apple Account.
I considered giving my wife my phone but that changed my mind. I thought I was being smart.

Indeed the AppleCare plan is tied to that particular device.
Erase all content says it will remove applecare+ theft and loss. I don't want that.
