macOS can’t adjust AirPods volume + can’t disable case sounds

Hello,

I use my AirPods with both my iPhone and my MacBook, and I’m having two issues on the Mac side.

  1. On the MacBook, the AirPods’ volume only changes correctly through the volume slider inside the video/player itself (for example, on YouTube or in a video app).
    • The system volume slider in macOS (in the menu bar, in Control Center, or via the volume keys) almost does not affect the actual volume in the AirPods.
    • On the iPhone, the same AirPods work perfectly: the volume changes smoothly and predictably both via the phone’s buttons and via the AirPods’ own controls.

Could you please advise how to configure the system volume control on the Mac so that it properly controls the AirPods’ volume, similar to how it works on the iPhone?

  1. I’m also unable to turn off the charging case sound.
    • In the AirPods settings on my Mac, there is a toggle for “Enable Charging Case Sounds”, but it doesn’t work: it is either disabled/greyed out or appears to switch, yet the case still plays a sound when opened or when charging.
    • I also tried changing this setting on my iPhone, but the charging case sound continues to play.

Could you please let me know:

  • how to correctly set up system volume control for AirPods on macOS; and
  • how to completely disable the AirPods charging case sound?

Thank you.

MacBook Air 15″, macOS 26.2
