New M5 iPad Pro, 1TB restarts after shutting down with power button. Ipad OS26.2

Hi there,

New, well a week old M5 iPad Pro restarts after shutting down via the power button on top right of screen. Shutting down via Settings>General>Shut Down does not cause the iPad to restart. I’ve tried hard reset via volume up, volume down, holding power button without success. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Sounds like you are not actually shutting the iPad down, but instead putting it to sleep using the top (power) button. Simply pressing the top (power) button on it's own does NOT power the iPad OFF. To properly shut the iPad down:

Turn iPad on or off (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  • Turn on iPad: Press and hold the top button until the Apple logo appears.
  • Turn off iPad: Simultaneously press and hold the top button and either volume button, then drag the slider.

Source of above procedure

Note that in any power OFF instance (physical button sequence or from Settings), you will be required to drag (the) slider to power it off. If you do not see the "slide to power off" with the slider, you are not powering the device OFF.
