Unable to Log-In to App Store from Mac

Hello Gals and Guys -

I have an i3 Mac Mini and I was attempting to put Safari into dark mode using an app from the App Store. When I tried log into the App Store, it was telling me my ID or password was incorrect. Eventually, it gave me some options to fix it and I chose the email link. When I got the email, I was able to log in using my password, but I was prompted to set up two factor authentication, which I declined as this is the first time I've gotten anything from the App Store in years and don't need it. It told me everything was OK, but I still cannot log into the App Store. I'm not sure if passing on the two factor authentication is the is the issue, but does anyone have am idea what's going on here or how I can fix it? Thanks for any help.

I don't use two factor and I have no issue with using the App Store on my Mac. In fact I don't even remember being nagged about two factor when I signed in.

Does it say why you cannot sign in?

Have you tried restarting your computer? I use a new OS version on my computer but I am surprised that frequently it takes a complete restart to get certain services to actually update if all I do is change them in Settings.

Which macOS version are you using? I seem to remember that when I was using High Sierra that the App Store application was having problems interfacing with the actual server.
