What kind of password is your Mac asking you for?

• If ANY of the following apply, erase your Mac and reinstall macOS.
  • User login password
  • Apple ID that you don't recognize
  • Setup Assistant doesn't appear
  • If you are in doubt about the situation
• If you see the below screen, your Mac has a firmware password set. Contact the previous owner for the password, or take your Mac to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider to get it removed.

Did you get this MacBook directly from an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Reseller or from some other third-party source?

The only password that you would be asked for while initially setting it up would be for your Apple ID account.
