How to make sure my messages transfer over to my new phone

I’m going to get a new iPhone but I want to make sure my messages transfer over to my new phone. How can I do that?

If you are using Messages in iCloud (check under Settings > Your Name > iCloud, see if the toggle is turned on for messages), then they will be downloaded as soon as you log in with your current Apple ID on a new phone.

If you do not, you create a backup of your previous phone and then restore it on a new one. More here:
