Series 4 watch battery dying fast after latest update

I have and Apple Watch series 4 and just did the latest update today and now my battery doesn't last more then 5 hours. I have had the watch less than a year. Can I undo an update or what else can I do to fix this.

My Apple Watch 4 is dying in less than 5 hours. What is the actual fix? Is Apple providing an update? I have a $550 piece of Apple Tech that is not doing what it should be doing. I need help with this issue... Please reach out and provide assistance.

Hi all,

I too have experienced this issue with my Apple Watch 4 since the new upgrades came out. I have an iPhone XS that it’s paired to. I have done as julieda has suggested repeatedly; it works for awhile, but at some point, the drain resumes.

I looked through the diagnostic logs (Apple Watch app on iPhone, General, then scroll to the very bottom to see Diagnostics Logs). I didn’t make a copy of it, but I found where the Reminder daemon was consuming too much processing capacity.

Then I tried an experiment. For a day, I deleted the Reminders app from my phone, which also removes it from the Watch. Then I did the reset julieda mentions. Battery life dramatically improved. With Reminder installed, I got between 2–3 hours of Standby. With the app removed, I’ve returned to the usual 10–11 Standby hours. I tried this experiment a few times and got consistent results. I’ve since left Reminders off my phone.

I can’t say that this works for everyone, but it did in my case. Unfortunate, though, I actually like the app. I’ll submit feedback to Apple accordingly.

By the way, removing Reminders from your phone won’t delete the contents, since they’re stored in your iCloud account, assuming synch wasn’t turned off.

If you give this a try, I hope it works for you as well.

I'm having this same problem, but when I look at diagnostic logs I don't see anything that references the Reminder daemon or processing capacity for any apps. Admittedly there is quite a list of logs and I peaked into several of them but not all and none of their titles give me a clue as to which log might give this information. Can you enlighten further on what to look for or how to search in the diagnostic logs? Thanks

I only had a few logs at the time, I think there were three, but the one I found mentioned “remindd” that was constantly consuming CPU. I’m guessing that once the log is sent to Apple, it’s deleted from the phone. Wish I’d saved a copy. I can’t even remember the name of the log, but it may have had “crashreporter” in the title. But I am still experiencing normal battery life now, several days after deleting Reminders. I also no longer see a long list of diagnostic logs.

At the moment it would seem that all any of us can do is keep calling into AppleCare Support. My Watch4 (along with my iPhone) started dying prematurely after the last update and a few weeks ago I went through everything with support. Battery diagnostics checked out fine. Hard resets did nothing. I did resort to unpairing the watch, and setting it up again from scratch like a new watch (not from backup)...this was a pain because the watch had to be recalibrated from scratch for my workout metrics. However, it did fix the battery life for awhile...the first day I was back up to over 22 hours on a charge. But it didn't last. Gradually, maybe 10% per day, the battery life deteriorated back down to 5-6 hours per charge. During this several week process I also bought a new Watch5, because I need to have a watch on at all times for the fall detection. The new Watch5 was setup with the same iPhone and with the same settings as the Watch4. It started out with great battery life, and then deteriorated in the same manner as the Watch4. It is only a week old now and already down to 6-7 hours per charge. I will probably get on chat support with Apple again after the holiday because I don't have time to deal with it now.
