First, identify your iPad model. Use this link to help you: Identify your iPad model - https://support.apple.com/kb/HT201471 check the model number on the back of yours with the model numbers in the support document, and/or Settings > General > About


Now find the model in the list I provided earlier and if it is eligible for an upgrade.


Another way to do this is the method you have apparently already done. This will work for any model device which means you can check it yourself without having to go through long lists of posts with people tossing model numbers at you.


Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - https://support.apple.com/HT204204 - When you update you will only be given one update selection which will be the highest available iOS version supported by your device. If it says no update is available and you need a higher version you will have to buy newer equipment. Note, this method is how you yourself can find out what the current highest available version is for any device you own without us providing a list.
