I have a new MacBook Pro. How do I erase backups from my old MacBook from my external hard drive, My Book?
Thanks, Ralph

To erase the entire disk:
Open Disk Utility and choose the uppermost, unindented icon and the click on erase. You may need to click on the "View" menu in the upper left to see it.
Or did you want to save any backups?

OK didn't see that at first. I'm not sure why Disk Utility cannot unmount the disk. First thing I'd try is restarting then replugging the drive and attempting again. Did you ever have problems with that disk before?
Ok, I rebooted and was able to delete the files on My Book. Time machine is backing up now.
Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!
Thanks I'm deleting now.
You're welcome. Enjoy the new Mac!
It won't let me Trash the My Book
This is the error message

What do you mean, a reformat of the drive should wipe everything on it? What are you doing and what is Disk Utility reporting exactly?
You're welcome. Glad that worked out.
