Using apple watch without iPhone

My grandmother is 90 years old and has recently been experiencing loss of balance due to atrial fibrillation. I know that the Apple Watch offers some support on things like this as I own one but my question is, if I were to get her one, is there anyway me or my mother can receive a notification that there is a problem? As she doesn't own an iPhone and as you can imagine wouldn't get on with one very well considering her age. Any help is really appreciated and any recommendations of other products that might help would be great! Thank you for the support (I live in the UK)

The watch needs to be paired to an iPhone. If she had a watch and fell you or anyone you choose can be notified in addition to Emergency Services. Also, if you were to get a watch I would recommend the Cellular version.
