Cannot air drop between my iPhone and MacBook Pro

My MacBook Pro is mid-2015 running on Catalina 10.5.1. I have an iPhone XR. When I select AirDrop, I see my laptop, but when I select the device it just goes into 'waiting' mode. I have AirDrop in my computer to be detected by Everyone, no firewall, in the same room right next to each other. I've gone through steps to try and reconnect. It worked under other ios versions. any suggestions?

Probably you meant Catalina 10.15.1

On Mac:

  • Choose Go > AirDrop from the menu bar in the Finder, then make sure that AirDrop is turned on.
  • Check the ”Allow me to be discovered by” setting at the bottom of the AirDrop window. When AirDrop is set to receive content from Contacts Only, both devices must be signed in to iCloud, and the email address or phone number associated with the sender's Apple ID must be in the Contacts app of your Mac.
  • Make sure that “Block all incoming connections” is turned off in Security & Privacy preferences of the receiving Mac.
