I am trying desperately to upgrade my Macbook Air (c 2013) from 10.9.5 to anything else. I tried following the directions on Apple's page about getting an OS update, I downloaded the link and installed it. It says install complete, yet my Mac still says 10.9.5. Help? I don't even mind if it's 10.10 I just need it updated so that Chrome and other apps can be updated, they are out of date now, yet my Mac runs perfectly.

There are some older versions Mac OS X such as Mavericks 10.9.5 that would need an intermediate

upgrade to slightly higher Mac OS X before more recent version could be installed.

Which one newer than Mavericks did you try? El Capitan may be OK to try. The Mac you have shouldn't

have problem with High Sierra 10.13.6, or Mojave 10.14.6. Curious if the item you downloaded, wasn't

just the Installer; not a full system.

Did you look into the Applications folder to see if the Installer was put there? IF so, then you could use

that to see if newer macOS will install. ~ The actual installer would need to download for maybe hours.

And then maybe restart at least twice.

You may be able to read and see if later macOS could be used; as new of Mac as you have,

there is more than a chance it could use Mojave 10.14.6; maybe try High Sierra 10.13.6, first?

Wow, you are a saint!!! And I'm a noob. I had only downloaded the installer! *hand to the face* Followed your steps and there it was, and took about an hour like you said. Thank you SO MUCH. After four hours of investigating sweat and stress, I have a fully functioning 10.10 (lol) and it looks like I can probably go at this again with El Capitan.
