Why haven't you backed it up? If the app is not performing correctly, the standard troubleshooting step is to first try force restarting the app and then opening it again, and if that does not work, delete the app and download it again. If you do not wish to do this, then you need to contact WhatsApp support to see what they say is an alternative.
