Hello,
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
˜What all 3rd party extensions are you running?

See my recent thread: Erratic, Unstable, Jerky Trackpad Cursor
As you'll see from Leroy's very helpful replies it could be serious in worst a case scenario. Check your casing and check the health of your battery in \System Report\Power.
I need to get my battery replaced or serviced but I think the immediate problem for me could be traced back to the power supply. I'm still testing but my cursor has stable and accurate for some time now since I swapped the extension cable from my wall socket.
After you make sure you're battery hasn't swollen then I'd recommend a shutdown, unplug the power supply, use battery only. If it's now stable try a spare power supply if you have one, or plug into a different extension cable if your using one, or you might try a different wall socket although I'm not sure that would make much difference unless it's on a different ring main.
Good luck with.

Still a problem. I must be brushing some key inadvertently while composing. I wipe out what I've written without intending to.
And on email, using the Apple wireless mouse, the screen jumps from small type face to very large type face without my intending to.
Happens on mine, too, even as I'm typing this. And a friend has the same MBP 2018 with the same problem. I just had the entire keyboard top/battery replaced, because I was also typing triple characters with one key tap. That was fixed, but the cursor jumping to the middle of a line was not.
Did you find a solution?
I booted in safe mode and the problem was still there, even on the login screen. However when I then booted normally the problem appeared to have gone.
After a few minutes though the cursor again seems a bit erratic although less than before, it's just not quite accurate enough for comfort, lacking precision. Any help would be much appreciated.
ALERT
Having been rebooted for around fifteen minutes now the problem has returned with a vengeance.
My cursor is very Jittery. It moves around and changes size. I am using a late 2011 13" MacBook Pro that recently auto updated to ac OS sierra (10.12.6). It is next to i,possible to select anything. I have tried a safe boot - as suggested in a support item. If anything it got worse.
Here's another thing to check. Many people have trackpad taps turned on and that will make the cursor move to different places!
Go to System Preferences, Trackpad, Point and Click tab, and turn OFF (uncheck) the Tap to Click option.
That cursor jumping happens a lot when that it is on and your palm or other part of your hand touches the trackpad!
Cursor behaving or not?
Can you try a USB Mouse or KB for testing?
To get the most helpers in on your problem it's best to open a new topic. :)
Thank you, I will do that.

My cursor is jumping around this morning. How did you fix it?
Hi,
Mine was/is caused by the third party Macbook power supply. It's fine as soon as I unplug it, trackpad perfectly sensitive and precise.

I had the same jumpy cursor problem on my iMac. I performed the Safe Boot as directed here and the problem disappeared. I then restarted computer and the issue has still been resolved. YAY!!!
I tried several reboots, cold boots and nothing worked. I downloaded Avast Security (free version) and it found many "issues" and fixed them. Problem resolved.
