the mail app on my iMac (Sierra 10.12.6) keeps closing. The computer develops a report that I send to Apple. I also run a Macbook Air on which this does not occur which suggests there is an application on the iMac but not on the Macbook causing this. How should I approach fixing this?

Please rebuilt each of the mailboxes and and then retest.

Well if the Mail app is having the same problem, yes reset the NVRAM.
This was helpful in that it pushed me to search for a reason why the the version upgrade wasn't working which i rsolved so indirectly you fix3d this for me. thanks Mike
thanks for this response. I followed the instruction: Mail-Mailbox-Rebuild. After clicking rebuild I saw no action. That is, no drop down in case there were subsequent selections to be made and no sign that a rebuild was happening, .
Should I therefore go to reset NVRAM?
