Mail Badge App icon not working

Despite having the Badge app icon selected, the red badging dot does not show up on the MacMail icon in my doc. I am on Mac Catalina OS. 10.15.4; MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015); 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7; MD Radeon R9 M370X 2 GB

Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

You can see below that the other apps are producing badge dots.

Mail Badge App icon disappears when I close Mail. I have badge app icon checked on Mail notifications preferences and it'll only show up when the app is open, not when I quit it. I've tried in notifications preferences and mail preferences but the badge doesn't show unless Mail is open. I'm on OS10.15.4 an early 2015 MacBook Pro. It does the same thing in safe start mode and the only LogIn item in this account is DropBox.

Apple Mail icon in dock no longer shows unread mail count UNLESS the app is open (Monterey)... Hi. I migrated to a new M1 based MacBook Air running Monterey from a 2012 MBP recently. One of the annoying little traits is now the Apple Mail icon in dock no longer shows unread mail count UNLESS the app is open. I have the "Badge app icon" selected in Preferences > Notifications & Focus > Mail checked, but unless the app itself is open, the familiar red dot with the unread count is no longer showing. I have relied on this feature up until now to remind myself there are unread mails to be dealt with. Is this an issue, or a new feature? If there is a way of getting the count in the icon to stay regardless of whether the app is open or not, please advise... All the best.. Richie.

Catalina Mail app's badge icon constantly backwards My Mail app's unread mail indicator behaves very strangely... when I mark a message as read, the indicator remains at "1", and then goes away only if I mark the message as unread again. So it is constantly wrong, showing an unread message when there isn't one, and showing no unread messages when there is. Here is a video... you can see the dock icon's indicator is always backwards from what it should be. http://everettwarner.net/images/screenrecording.mov Restarting the Mail app fixes the problem, until a new message arrives. I've tried rebuilding my mailboxes, trashing plist files, etc. and nothing will stop this. Am I going crazy? EDIT: it says I am running OSX 10.11 but that is because I selected the wrong computer... I am on a MacBook Pro running 10.15.4

FWIW, the badge doesn't show unless Mail is open and you have unread messages.

Thank You Dialabrain. Weird that the other elements allow for badging without being opened. Consistency is key.
