Kernel_task is mostly using higher CPU, Sometimes 1000% even CPU is cooled. [Catalina OS]

Hi People,

I'm having 2018 MacBook Pro with i9. I'm really fade up with the performance. All the CPU is being used by kernel_task, even if my system's temperature is not too high.

I went Apple Store, Technician said there is no hardware issue. I tried running Safe boot, First Aid, Factory Reset, SMC Reset, nothing works.

Please help how can i fix it. (Screenshot attached)

I'm not using any other Battery tool. But you are right I face this issue also when connected to charger. And also I face sometime seared issues with Battery like:

  1. Battery didn't charge sometime although it was connected to charger, then I usually switch charging port. it works.
  2. Last week I've got replaced my Macs Top base because of keyboard issue after than my battery is draining faster.
  3. System turns off automatically when battery is low like 10%. When I turn it on it show battery is 0% as soon as I plug adapter battery goes back to 8 or 10%.

I did Hardware test, test didn't say any issue. One more thing my ambient temperature is usually high 35-38 degree but in same ambient temperature my same model with i7 is working great.

I'm installing coconut battery, Please check screenshot.

If you have access to another Mac, then use Apple Configurator 2 to revive and/or restore the firmware for the T2 chip or have Apple do it for you:

I agree the issue is hardware related if reviving or restoring the T2 firmware doesn't help. Make sure to take your power adapter and charging cable along so they can be examined & tested as well.

kernel_task having a high CPU% doesn't necessarily means it has actually taken CPU power. It might mean it has skipped cycles due to throttling.

I would in general say this is a hardware issue, but does this also keep on happening if you connect your charger? I'm wondering if the system considers the power draw on the battery too big (considering its only at 1/4th of a charge) and throttles the CPU to reduce the power draw.

How are your battery cycles like? Does CoconutBattery (or any other battery tool for osx) show high battery cycles or low remaining charge capacity?
