I have trouble syncing music from my computer to iTunes. It comes over 1 song at a time from a cd then fades away every so often before I can sync it to my iPhone or iPad

How do I download a music, mp3 file from my computer to iTunes and not have it ghost eventually so I can't sync to my iPhone or iPad?

iPhone 7, iOS 13

Do you have either Apple Music or iTunes Match? If you use the Songs view of the library and sort on Date Added, and then click the small triangle to sort in descending order, you should see the most recent additions to the library listed at the top.
