External Hard Drive

Short answer is no. Most reputable Vendors of USB External Drives should work. Just be sure the type of connection from drive to MBA are compatible ie: USB - C or previous version USB - A. Check you computer for what type of USB female connection it requires.

I love my WD external hd and has the same color as the macbook air

seagate works great with my MacBook air and dell xps

toshiba makes a fast external HD as well.

all these are non ssd (spin) and are usb a 3.1

No, Apple does not manufacture them, but any external hard disk drive will work. Just be sure to format it with Disk Utility when you get it.
