Apple ID change

Hello, I am trying to change my apple ID email and it says that my icloud email is "unavailable, choose a different address." The current email I am using is my fathers and I am trying to switch it to my own email but it is giving me a hard time when I try to change his email to mine. Thanks!

How to Change Your Apple ID
