SIM card not supported

I’m trying to insert a SIM card into my payed out iPhone & it’s telling me that it’s not supported. It says to contact apple for help unlocking this phone.

iPhone XS, iOS 12

Your iPhone is still carrier locked. It is locked to the carrier that it last worked on. Have you inserted a SIM card that is different from the carrier that you were using in the past? If YES then contact the old carrier and ask them what it will take to unlock your iPhone. Carrier Lock and Unlock is completely managed by that carrier.
