Backslash symbol becomes ¥ using Macbook keyboard

Hi,

I am having trouble typing the \ sign as it is showing ¥ with my keyboard. I am able to type | with the same keyboard button. I have not been using the backslash sign for a long while but now I need to use texshop so I realise that I can only type this ridiculous ¥.

My region is set as Australia and only English and Chinese are enabled for my keyboard. Is there somewhere else I can change the setting?

Ever since I upgraded to Big Sur there are just too many issues with the Macbook. This one really makes me feel like a clown. Any help is appreciated!

Try holding down option when you press that key. What do you get?

If that doesn't work, try changing to different fonts.

Are you sure you don't have a Japanese keyboard activated? It has settings that do this specifically.
