Backing up iPhone to external storage (Big Sur)
I have almost no storage left on my iMac (2014 iMac, 27", 1 TB storage) and moved my iPhone (XS Max, 512 GB) backup to external storage. However, I have been trying to set up my iMac to do this automatically when I back up using iTunes; however I have been unsuccessful. I have read several articles and watched several videos, however the only way I can get the backup onto the external drive is to back up to the iMac and then drag the file to the external drive.
Because of this, I haven't deleted any backup files off my iMac yet, so I haven't solved my issue.
Does anyone have any insight into why this is so difficult? All I can think of is that Apple is chasing the mighty $ by forcing people to buy a new iMac with more storage (and those prices are ridiculous) or pay for iCloud storage (which I don't trust).
