If you have access to a computer, you can delete multiple contacts by entering to icloud.com with your Apple ID (you need to have your contacts synced to iCloud).

Open iCloud in your desktop browser, then click Contacts. Hold down the Command (Ctrl key on PC), click the first contact you want to delete, then the next, and so on. Hit the delete key or click the gear icon and Delete.

iCloud will sync with your iPhone and done.

Hope this helps and solves your question. Do not hesitate to ask if you need more information.

You can delete only one contact card at the time. If you have multiple cards to delete you do them one by one.

You can look up in App Store for apps that allow to delete more than one card, or sign in to the account you sync the contacts with and use instructions provided by whomever supports your account to delete multiple cards.

There is no fault with your iPhone; Contacts app simply does not offer such option. If you want to see that option added, submit your feedback to Apple at www.apple.com/feedback.
