Closing apps in the recents

  1. Should I close my apps in the recents every time I switch or don't need to use them.
  2. Does it affect my phone's battery life and performance?

You don't have to completely close your apps from the App Switcher (You called it Recents). You can leave them in their suspended stage until you need the app(s) again. This does not affect your iPhone's battery life or performance.
