Mail fail to open, Not responding imac late, 2013, os 10.11.6, happened suddenly this morning

The last mail i received was at 08:20. Then all mailboxes went offline: The little "lightning bolt.'

I couldn't get the boxes back online. I tried closing the app. It wouldn't re-open.

It comes up, takes its shot, and goes to the beachball of death and I have to Force Quit.

Same in Safe Mode.

I can get to some of my mail in the icloud at my 'mac.com' address but not for my 'me.com' one.

Any help would be greaatly appreciated, thank you.

Apple iCloud Mail System was down yesterday for some time. Have a look at System Status and see if your experience lines up with the period when iCloud Mail was down. Note. the times on their site are all Pacific Time.

Please - the xx@mac.com and the xx@me.com emails addresses. the xx in both accounts are they the same or different. example P.Phillips@mac.com ( does not exist, just for example ) is the same as P.Phillips@me.com and same as P.Phillips@icloud.com
