Dark Display

My iPhone SE which is about one year old, recently started displaying in a very dark view. Spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone with Apple and got nowhere.

This normally happens when I am looking at the phone outdoors after 10 minutes or so when it's 80° and I never received any warning like it has overheated. When I go inside I still have a dark display for 20 or 30 minutes and then it goes back to normal.

all of my settings are correct they have been checked countless times. I have also shut down and restarted my phone countless times. Does anyone have the same issue? Any suggestions without having to reset to original settings?

This is expected, and happens with lots of iPhone models, especially iPhone X and iPhone 12 mini. When iPhone gets too warm, it will do some things to keep itself usable before displaying a temperature warning. Some of these measures include:

  • Charging, including wireless charging, slowing or stopping.
  • The display dimming or going black.
  • Cellular radios enter a low-power state. The signal might weaken during this time.
  • The camera flash is temporarily disabled.
  • Performance slows with graphics-intensive or augmented-reality apps or features.
