iPhone alarm not making sound

This has been asked previously and many others reported the same issue. I set my alarm on my iPhone. It will randomly not make a sound just display the alarm notification on the screen. My volume is turned up, it’s not vibrating, it’s just dead silent with the alarm banner showing on the screen. Happens randomly, and this has been happening since 2010 with every iPhone I have owned. Apple has “answered” by telling people to turn up the volume, then they lock the thread. One way you can reproduce this bug is to have somebody call you immediately after your alarm starts to go off, it will mute the alarm leaving only the banner on the screen. This is not the only thing causing this though, as many times before my alarm has failed in such a way without having any calls. Another person suggested to turn face aware features off, mine have been off, but still have the issue.

This has been happening to me as well and has made me late to work a few times. I mean I guess it’s my fault for relying on the iPhone alone but I keep having this issue exactly as described. Reading through the canned response though it makes me wonder if maybe our phones are seeing our chargers as devices or headphones in a way and that’s why they’re not making sound. I have got the “connect accessory” message a couple times. I guess I will buy an old school alarm clock.

Hi there jnikoley,

From what we can tell, alarms aren't sounding on your iPhone as expected. We're glad you've joined us in Apple Support Communities, and we can provide some guidance.

"If you have an alarm that doesn’t sound or is too quiet, or if your iPhone only vibrates, check the following:

  • Set the volume on your iPhone. If your alarm volume is too low or too loud, press the volume button up or down to adjust it. You can also go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics and drag the slider under Ringers And Alerts.
  • If your alarm only vibrates, make sure that your alarm sound isn't set to None. Open the Clock app, tap the Alarm tab, then tap Edit. Tap the alarm, then tap Sound and choose a Sound.
  • If you connect headphones or speakers to your iPhone, the alarm plays at a set volume through the built-in speakers on your iPhone as well as wired and wireless headphones and speakers."

Have a look at the 'Get help with alarms' section of this link to learn more:

How to set and manage alarms on your iPhone

If the suggestions above don't seem to help, try choosing another alarm sound to see if the behavior persists. Let us know how it goes.

Cheers.
