Apple TV in US market has Chinese setup, and after changing to English some things are still in Chinese

I just got a 4k 2nd gen from Best Buy. It was open box, and I now know why, it launches setup in Chinese. It was hard to navigate even to get through setup until I realized I could use Google Translate on my phone with my camera to dynamically translate. Successfully switched everything to English (Region was already set for US, odd). I can use my Apple TV now, but some things are still showing in Chinese with no apparently way to change them. For instance, the Categories menu on the app store—only in Chinese.


Is there a fix for this? Or should I have Apple replace it directly? Something obviously got lost in translation. 👈 See what I did there? 🤪

If you get a previously used device, then it is recommended to reset it to factory settings. Reset or restore your Apple TV to its factory settings - Apple Support

Then you would get to set it up again “as new”, without any previous customization, user settings, or language. The first screen would then ask the new operating language.

Language and location are two separate settings. They may be unbound.
