iCloud Drive multiple document folders

After updating to macOS Monterey 12.2.1, I decided to try again to get my iMac and my MacBook synced. I signed in using the same ID, and selected "Desktop & Documents" in the Options. Certainly something happened, so it seems like I am on my way. However, there are multiple MacBook and iMac Document folders on the iCloud Drive. I am still very confused. Even if I manage to get down to 1 each, which one do I use? Do I combine them and use the combined folder on each computer?
