Can't access internet post migration

I migrated over last night using my old mac as a target drive. Everything is on my new mac however it keeps telling me its "Not Connected to the Internet" All my other computers and wifi devices in the house are including the old mac.


Any thoughts as to whats broken?


I have tried rebooting my router and the MacBook. I have deleted the wifi connection and re-established it. I have put the in the IP address manually and put in the DNS manually. I have tried three different wifi connections all of which work with my old Mac, TV, phone etc.

If you are sure that your MacBook can access the modems ... but not the Internet, then there is still a possibility that there is a configuration issue.


A simple experiment, would be to open the Terminal app. At the command prompt, enter: ping -c3 1.1.1.1, and then, press return. If successful, the result would indicate that ping completed a round trip 3 times.


It would look something like the following image:



If your results were successful, then try entering: ping -c3 www.apple.com



If this last ping is NOT successful. then the issue may be the DNS settings your notebook is using to access the Internet with.

Here you go. Looks like everything is filled in. Still says wifi connected but no internet. I'm sending this pdf from my Air. Ps. Should I use an ethernet cable to connect to the router and try to get online that way? Then I could confirm my apple ID during the reset factory settings process and start again?


The pro accessed wifi no problem before I did the migration. It used wifi for the migration. Thoughts?

Yes. I did all the migration steps. MacBook Air Retina 13" 2019 running Monterey 12.2.1 to MacBook Pro 14" 2021 M1 Pro chip running Monterey 12.2.1 - and everything seems to have copied. When I select my home router the new macbook connects but says wifi does not have an ip address. The Air picks up 192.168.1.105 as the IPv4 address using DHCP. Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and router 192.168.1.1


The new mac doesn't fill in any fields when Using DHCP is selected. I tried doing a manual fill in using the same info with just the last digit of the ip address changed to a 6 but no connection and the DNS servers box was empty. I tried to manually add 192.168.1.1 as are filled in for the MacBook Air under DNS servers but that didn't work either

Actually, that would be by design ... so nothing wrong there.


Let's approach this at a more fundamental level, by starting with verifying that macOS is recognizing you have a working Wi-Fi adapter on your notebook.


To do so, select the Apple logo on the macOS menu bar. Then, while holding down the Option key, select System Information. Then go to Network > Wi-Fi. Under the Interfaces category, are all of the fields populated? Specifically, the Card Type & Status fields? Go ahead an provide a screen shot. Be sure to mask the MAC Address field value.

Yes, successfully connecting by Ethernet, will narrow down the likely culprit during troubleshooting. Let us know you results.


... and, yes, the screenshot does confirm that macOS is recognizing the AirPort card built-in your Mac.

Hi Again - I finally managed to order a Belkin USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter and plugged into two different modems. Both modems are delivering both ethernet and wifi signal with good internet connection on other devices.


The MacBook recognised the Belkin connection and connected but still no internet connection. Any other ideas?
