Files on my iCloud Drive showing as missing in InDesign + Illustrator

Hello!

I have an issue with iCloud that started recently even though I have been using iCloud for awhile. When I open Adobe InDesign or Illustrator and look at my links panel, some of the files are missing. When I try to relink them, I get this message:

So then I search for them on my hard drive in the Finder and they show up but do not show a thumbnail.

I then have to double click to open the file and then the thumbnail shows up and I am then able to relink in my application.

It is adding significant time to my workflow. Any ideas how I can resolve this?

Thank you! Laurie

Do you have your iCloud set to Optimize Mac Storage? Turn it off.
