Can iMac be upgraded for new software updates?
I need to upgrade my iMac to get newer software upgrades (am stuck at Catalina).
Is it possible to upgrade rather than buy a newer iMac???????
thanks

if Catalina is the last macOS that the iMac can run, then, no. hardware upgrades DO NOT make an incompatible Mac compatible again. sorry.
If you are asking about the 2021 iMac in your post, it can be upgraded to Monterey (as can any late 2015 or later iMac). See: How to upgrade to macOS Monterey - Apple Support
Yeah I installed a 2021 iMac for my dad the other day, it came with Big Sur indeed. If your Mac cannot get Big Sur or Monterey, no hardware change will change that, I am sorry

they can't be asking about the 2021 iMac because it likely came with Big Sur so it cannot run Catalina.
I said "likely" because I was thinking "couldn't a more recent 2021 iMac 24" have come with monterey?"?
